World of Tanks

Best of Both Worlds

What better way to power a world of tanks then to have a big world engine?  Today we have learned officially, the BigWorld Technology suite is powering the development of the brand-new free-to-play MMO game WORLD OF TANKS. For those that do not know what a game engine really does (we think most of you do), the software is a really efficient and advanced tool for designing a sweeping massively multiplayer online game, and allows focusing on core issues of the game, such as captivating and realistic gameplay and top-notch graphics and visual effects.  This is the same game engine powering the recently announced Kingdom Heroes.

BigWorld Technology fully satisfies the highest requirements of the intensive development process providing a set of tools necessary to produce an ace-high MMOG with fast-paced battles featuring various modes, historic mini-campaigns, tourneys and epic Clan Wars on a global map.

“We had been considering several technologies before starting developing our new team-based Panzer MMO game”, says Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming.net. “However, it turned out that BigWorld is the only ready-to-use and complete solution for the specific needs of this project.”

“World of Tanks breaks new ground”, said John De Margheriti, CEO of BigWorld. “It is a fantastic example of great team-based MMO gameplay, featuring authentic tank models, strong RTS elements and tremendously fun action gameplay. We are very excited by how much fun playing World of Tanks will be”.

Ether Saga Online Turns 1

Perfect World Entertainment has announced that its anime-inspired MMORPG, Ether Saga Online has officially completed its first year of service. Based on the classic novel, “Journey to the West,” one of Ether Saga Online’s key features is the variety of hundreds of pets in the game that can be “melded” together to form stronger and different looking pets.

“As a way to thank our players and help celebrate Ether Saga Online’s one year anniversary, we’re giving away tons of pets throughout the week,” said Craig Beers, Product Manager for Ether Saga Online. “With over a quarter of a million pets melded so far, we look forward to and challenge our players to have the best pet possible.”

Among the many anniversary events happening throughout the week, players will have a chance to win awesome prizes such as a Rapid Raptor pet or the Kentauride pet, which was selected by the community via player poll. To win the latter pet, veteran pet trainers will need to successfully meld a specific pet 10 times without changing its outward appearance in the 10 Meld Challenge.

GamesCampus Prepares Closed Beta For New MMORTS

GamesCampus has announced its new genre-bending, free-to-play MMORTS, Soul Master will be entering closed beta this summer. Developed by NPluto, Soul Master is a new game that allows players to have complete MMORPG-style control over their RTS characters. The game will enter Closed Beta Testing in June of this year.

"Soul Master is unlike anything else currently out there and definitely what players have been waiting for," said David Chang, EVP of Marketing and Business Development for GamesCampus. "We spotted an opportunity to bring this truly unique and fun MMORTS online experience to our GamesCampus.com players and we took it!"

Combat

Soul Master will feature a unique combat system that will allow players to create structures, progress through technology trees and produce and command units-all while developing a persistent character of their own. With resource-driven RTS combat, Soul Master allows players to create defensive towers, barricades, resource harvesting structures, and unit production facilities while progressing through simplified, traditional RTS tech-trees that let players focus on strategic, active gameplay in both Team and Free-for-All PvP.

Soul Master includes rich item customization systems that enable players to acquire unique stat and skill bonuses both for their personalized avatars, as well as their RTS buildings, production capabilities, and controlled units. In addition to the robust PvP content, Soul Master features a wide range of PVE scenario modes such as defending objectives, escort missions, co-op challenges, boss raids, and AI RTS battles.

With fast paced combat that combines the high-speed action of a character vs. character brawler- and the tactical elements of a squad-based RTS - Soul Master sets out to take the very best of both worlds and merge them into a genre unto itself.

Kingdom Heroes

Dev Blog #1: Player Ships, Player Crews, and PvP Action on the High Seas

Imagine sailing down a narrow river at top speed, relentlessly pursued by a larger, more powerful vessel. Your friends desperately try to fire off a barrage of arrows from the mounted crossbows aboard your deck but they aren’t any match for the heavy cannon fire wreaking havoc all around you. You’ve pushed your ship to its breaking point – it can’t move any faster. Suddenly, explosions tear through your vessel and some of your crewmates are flung into the violent, crashing waves. A feeling of utter terror takes holds of your heart – the main mast is about to collapse!

Without a doubt, one of the most exciting features that Kingdom Heroes has to offer is its innovative player ship system. Never before in an MMORPG have multiple players been able to collaborate together aboard the same vessel. While other games limit one player to one ship, or, at best, allow multiple players aboard the same ship but offer no cooperative gameplay, Kingdom Heroes breaks the mold and takes player ships to the next level.

In order to purchase a ship and start your career on the high seas, the first thing you need to do is assemble a crew of players and formally establish a guild. You’ll have to pass a certain level requirement and spend some coin to make it official, but once you’ve gathered your trusted team of seasoned sailors, all that’s left to do is to select your first vessel, get on board, and set sail.

Kingdom Heroes

Because ships are tied to the guild system, it’s the guild leader’s responsibility to purchase, upgrade, and organize all related naval affairs – including assigning ranks and permissions to his/her guild mates. Of course, any guild member can still chip in towards costs if they desire – and it’s probably best they do. As a guild grows in stature and if they acquire enough resources, they can eventually add more ships to their fleet and become the terror of the high seas.

There are a variety of ships with different crew sizes, gun types, and features for players to choose from. The smallest of these vessels can hold a crew of seven, while the largest offers stations for up to eleven players. Although you aren’t required to have a complete crew on board to use a ship, if you aim to put up a good fight against other player vessels, you’ll probably want an experienced navigator at the helm with a full complement of seasoned gunners, repairmen, and raiders.

That’s right – raiders! Even if your ship is occupied by a player at every station, you can still have additional players walking the deck. If they have ranged combat abilities, they can fire off their arms or spells across the water at other players. Even better, if your ship gets close enough, players can jump off the deck and land on board an enemy vessel. Miss, and you can climb up the backside of a ship and get up close and personal.

In addition to player-versus-player (PvP) combat on the high seas, ships become incredibly useful when conquering and defending extremely valuable port cities. Because all regions of the world map are accessible by water, ships are the fastest form of travel during a Kingdom War. If your faction (and your guild) has a dock in its possession, ships become an efficient and effective method of transporting allied guilds off to war.

You can take to the seas in Kingdom Heroes when the game begins Closed Beta in late Spring 2010. To be among the first to sign up for an early glimpse of the game, visit http://kingdomheroes.aeriagames.com.
