Paladins Get What They Wanted, Maybe What They Deserved

Paladins have done a great job escaping the nerf hammer even when the goal is to completely nerf the overall performance of the class.  While other classes have seen major reductions in important skill rotations in any given patch (without counter balancing) the Paladin usually gets reimbursed for its deductions.

The funny thing is what people that play the Paly complain about is...dps.  Well low and behold the Paladin is getting some improvements to that although the class is not exactly intended to be a dps class.  Why people that choose a buff class and then complain about dps is a whole different story, but I guess when you play any given class you do not care about balance and roles, you just want to get better.

Of the many changes the Paladin grabs in 3.2, I want to highlight the Exorcism change. Paladins never really had a closing spell that could put out damage as an instant attack, so Exorcism (which offers a 100% chance to be a critical strike when used on Undead and Demons) had a great purpose to nab the final rotation spot while closing on the enemy.

When it got a serious nerf by being removed from PvP and players of course were not all that impressed, but the recent change to bring it back in as a PvP weapon came with such a huge change to its dynamics that the main purpose for its use was thrown out the window.  There are plenty of other damage spells with cast times, so by bringing it back into play against players with a 1.5 cast time basically has created an entirely new bittersweet spell, just keeping the name.

If you are a Ret Paly, Blizzard I guess has made the decision of when to use it pretty much for you by only making it beneficial in your combat rotation during Art of War procs.  Again, the point is that while Blizzard thought it was doing Paladins a favor by giving it more damage and make it available gain in PvP, it basically was a back handed nerf because it took away the one nice little quick damage gem that will make you have to re-adjust the rotation that you have become so used to using.  Well buffers, I guess it is fitting to say...careful what you ask for.
