The Next Generation of Gamers
Tired of your friends ribbing that you do not have a social life just because you are spending too much time on World of Warcraft? Well, it’s time to give them a wakeup call and inform them that this is 2008 and not 1998.
Hard core gamers were said to be asocial and even anti-social in the days gone by. But the scene is different today, with the advent of Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games, it can be said that an online gamer gets more social interaction than most non-gamers. There are a lot of differences in MMORPGs and the traditional games. Here are just some:
You meet a lot of people: And actually play the game with them online. While in Desktop gaming you were all alone in the cold and friendless world of Doom, with Online play, you can actually make clans and groups and complete levels. Who knows, you may strike a better friendship with someone in Uzbekistan as compared to the person in the next lane – that is the magic of Online Play.Honestly, the majority of Americans waste countless hours sitting in front of a TV often without much conversation with ohters in the room.
In contrast, an online gamer equipt with Teamspeak or Vent carries on conversations in groups as large as 50 people. Combine the fact that these conversations can go on for hours, you can certainly learn alot about other people, build strong friendships, and learn about a multitude of different cultures. So the next time someone asks you how much time you spend playing online games, ask them how much time they spend watching TV.
