Funcom announces new title – 'Age of Conan: Rise of the Godslayer'Well it has been a little over a year since Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures commercially released, and since that time Funcom has been working hard developing the first expansion to its flagship MMO. The new title ‘Age of Conan: Rise of the Godslayer’ will take players into the Empire of Khitai, inspired by the rich and colorful cultures of eastern Asia. ‘Rise of the Godslayer’ adds a completely new storyline and a large new world to explore, and brings new features like faction gameplay and an alternate advancement system. New Mounts, Maps, Skills, Races, and items have been packed into the new expansion.  “Since the turn of the year the team has been working hard on bringing the Empire of Khitai to life,” states Craig Morrison, Game Director and Executive Producer on ‘Rise of the Godslayer’. “Our focus now is on expanding on the strengths of the game by providing massive new regions of the world to explore, and the Empire of Khitai offers a whole new perspective on the Conan lore and universe. ‘Age of Conan’ has evolved leaps and bounds since its launch last year, and we are making sure to build on the existing qualities and expand them further with the brand new content and gameplay in ‘Rise of the Godslayer’.”
Based on the original novel's storyline, ‘Rise of the Godslayer’ portays an Empire that is slowly turning into chaos, because of what young Conan did many years before. After Conan slayed the Elephant God in the popular Robert E. Howard story ‘The Tower of the Elephant’, strange and horrible things have been occurring to the Empire of Khitai. Age of Conan players now need to explore the dark roads of the Empire and walk the path of the Godslayer as in order to understand a mature and deep storyline full of brutal conflict and political intrigue that has been written into the game.

‘Rise of the Godslayer’ adds new maps which include Northern Grasslands, the deceptively serene Chosain Province and the magnificent Pillars of Heaven. These new regions have been torn apart by conflict between its inhabitants, and players can participate in these conflicts by joining up with many of the new warring factions. One of the most important features of ‘Rise of the Godslayer’ is Faction gameplay, that gives players choices that will earn them both allies and enemies in Khitai. AOC players can advance through faction ranks via questing and combat that rewards them with great loot such as new epic armor and weapons. Players can either continue into the expansion with their with existing characters and outfit them with new combat abilities and spells via the alternate advancement system, or they can re-roll as a Khitan – an all-new culture. ‘Rise of the Godslayer’ brings lots of new high-level content, as well as lower-level content in Khitai available immediately after leaving Tortage Island. The AOC expansion also introduces new mounts like the Tiger, and through adventure players will see them grow from a weak cub into a ferocious fighting companion.
“Development on ‘Rise of the Godslayer’ is progressing very well, something gamers can see and experience for themselves this week,” says Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas. “We have the game up and running on the showfloor at GamesCom, and we encourage everyone there to come visit us and give the expansion a try.
