As Phoenix Dynasty Online approaches its commercial launch we are giving you a little overview of the Artifact system of the game that is based on Chinese Mythology.   The PDO artifacts increase a players character stats once it has been equipped - they can also be further increased with skill stones.  In addition to increasing your stats, artifacts grant special abilities that can be used during combat.  With the launch version expansion, there will be a total of 6 general artifacts; these are the Great Ancestor’s Zither, the Emperor's Bell, the God's Vessel, the Dragon Seal, the World Creator's Axe and the Immortal Wand.  The bonuses these artifacts grant are HP, MP, Defense, Attack Power, Dodge and Hitting Rate. These bonuses are available at level 15 and higher; However, one of the most interesting aspects of the system is that the artifacts themselves gain xp with each kill.  The more xp it gains the better the stat bonus.

PDO Players that want to use the artifact system will need to do a level 15 quest. One they complete it, players will be able to hold as many as they wish, but only one can gain xp at a time.  They can also be combined in a synthesis process which will allow one weapon to carry both of the previous weapons' stats (one with mp and one with hp can be combined into one with hp and mp).   Even though you will get the benefit of having multiple stat proerties, the value will be lower after the initial sythesis.The stats will get doubled after the synthesis of two same artifacts, whereas with the synthesis of two different artifacts, it will come out with both stats but decreased values.   As you build your way to the final sythesis, the actual look of the item will change, more sythesis bonuses and features are planned for upcoming Phoenix Dynasty expansions such as the Class Artifact and Reputation Artifact.  Overall this is a great system that allows not only player customization but the system is more of an evolution for the player and their stats.
