Lineage 2
Lineage 2 has celebrated 4 years of groundbreaking success in the online world, few games match its intensity and political atmosphere. A vast number of games being developed even 4 years after its release cannot come close to matching the graphical masterpiece that is housed on its game engine. Only a handful of major games can compare to the amount of content within and frequency of its expansions. Lineage 2 is home the world of Aden, an online world that hosts some of the most hard-core gamers around.
Since Lineage 2 went gold, there have been hundreds of new titles released into the market, being enjoyed by gamers of all kinds. There are varying opinions on each community that comprises specific games, but there is little argument over impressions of Lineage 2 players. If you play Lineage 2 you are hardcore, and that is no exaggeration. Keeping this kind of qualified gamers happy is not an easy task, this is why each expansion has created major adjustments to game play that can take players months to master.
Hellbound, the latest expansion of Lineage 2, continues with tradition offering up new areas and challenges that will keep its dedicated player base busy through the year. If you thought expansions needed only one or two major lead roles, then you would be surprised to see that on the list of new features are Character Transformations, Addition of Fenrir Mounts with improved pet system, Impressive New Hunting Areas, Underground Coliseum, up to 12 character new skills can now be attained by high level Mains, a horde of top-level s-type weapons added, a new level cap, 22 new quests, and loads of improvements to many aspects of the game. Many of the additions that Hellbound brings could be considered fit for their own expansion by themselves, so when you combine all of these dynamic features into one giant update, what you get is nothing short of a success.
At the forefront of these challenges is the new Steel Citadel where the raid boss Beleth waits for any party that dares to cross his path. So they added a new boss, so what… Well it’s not just the new boss that makes the Steel Citadel impressive, first you have to get to him. The Steel Citadel, as players have quickly found out, will take a lot of planning.
You will need a highly talented party of raiders and a lot of patience to get through the 4 towers that must be cleared in order to take your turn at downing Beleth, including taking down 5 other major bosses and their entourage. You may need to get some leveling in on the new 5 levels before you make a successful run into the Towers.
Yes, we did say 5 new levels as the level cap has gone from 80-85 (main class only). We cannot say we like the new cap increase, L2 is the one game that really could go without a level cap increase for years while the majority of the server grinds up their subclasses. It would be nice to know how many of the Devs have actually done the entire grind to level 80 because if many had, the level cap would probably still be at 75. But remember L2 is not a carebear game.
In addition to gaining new levels for your main, players have gotten some new transformations. Among these are Normal Transformations and the more powerful Rare Transformations that can be learned by obtaining seal books that drop from 7 of the games bosses: Zaken for lvl 60+, Anakim for level 70+, Benom for lvl 70+, Gordon, Ranku, Kechi, and Demon Prince for lvl 76+. These transformations definitely add more value into leveling to 80 as each skill allows players to not only have tremendous boss like abilities, but also allows their sub-class to acquire divine skills that when achieved, will allow those players to have significant influence on the servers.
Mounts are a welcome addition to L2. Hellbound did not first introduce mounts, but the reality is that Striders and the Great Snow Wolf were not a practical mounts for most players due to all of the restrictions around them. With Fenrir, now the community as a whole has an opportunity to enjoy riding around on their very own mount. The pet system as a whole received improvements, with evolution of pets now becoming quite a fun task on the servers.
Even a month into Hellbound, players are still trying to get a grasp on all of the new features. The NCsoft team has definitely put together an amazing expansion that has brought old gamers back and new gamers in to the game that has proven its dedication to growth and game-play evolution. If you have yet to try out L2, or are looking to make a comeback to the game, Hellbound gives you all the reason to take your turn in the quest to be among the gaming elite.
