| | MMOFury | | Trinity was an enormous expansion, do you think players are still learning to grasp such an overwhelming amount of new content?
| |
| | | | | |
| | Wrangler
| | Certainly the most talked-about and exciting feature of Trinity was an overhaul of our visuals, letting players choose between Premium graphics content and Classic graphics content in addition to a number of features and new content. Our players are very resourceful and they learn very quickly to use any new toys we toss into the sandbox. Sometimes they’re even ahead of us. We wouldn’t consider anything we put in “overwhelming” at all, at least not to our players.

| | MMOFury | | EVE can be a challenging game for newcomers to learn. How does Trinity deal with reducing the learning curve for new EVE players?
| |
| | | | | |
| | Wrangler | | In the last year or so, we’ve been paying even greater attention to the New Player Experience and making improvements in every way possible. Some of the changes introduced in Trinity included context help, which means the capsuleer can access in-game help about a specific window by just clicking the question mark icon displayed in the windows’ menu bar This is also something we’re constantly evaluating in order to make it easier for new players to enter EVE. There’s more to welcoming new players than a tutorial though, and we’ve got some interesting things coming in the future.

| | | | | |
| | MMOFury | | How does the released version of Trinity compare to the originally intended expansion ideas? Did the development team get most of their wish list included in the final version?
| |
| | | | | |
| | Wrangler | | Our wish list is a constantly growing katamari-type thing that almost has a life of its own, absorbing ideas and suggestions not only from everyone at CCP but also our players. No single expansion could ever include everything. With Trinity, we do feel the most essential elements made it in and what we couldn’t cram into the actual expansion we were able to add later with the Boost Patch.

| | MMOFury | | The idea of having quests in the game that can lead factions into war is really gaining some attention, what is your biggest obstacle with putting these in place?
| |
| | | | | |
| | Wrangler | | The war is already on and the new missions are a result of each side trying to add more pilots to their cause. Once you join a Militia Corporation you’ll get access to Factional Warfare missions (“quests”) you can take to help your faction, and increase your own standing with that faction.

| | | | | |
| | MMOFury | | The Empyrean Age Expansion is on the way, how will this compare to Trinity in size and features?
| |
| | | | | |
| | Wrangler | | The primary feature of the Trinity expansion the graphics update, something we wanted to do before Factional Warfare was introduced. Our approach has always been a bit different in that, with most games, the design dictates the look and feel. Perhaps because the creator, Reynir Hardarson, is an ‘artiste’, the look of EVE has always been a top priority. The scope of such an ambition undertaking was enormous and it did result in a very large update even if it was small content-wise compared to previous expansions. With Factional Warfare at the core of Empyrean Age, the download may be smaller but it packs a lot of wallop in regard to content.

| | | | | |
| | MMOFury | | Tell us a little bit about the new Factional Militias of The Empyrean Age.
| |
| | | | | |
| | Wrangler | | The Militias are the various factions’ military operations that players can sign up for. A pilot can sign up individually or a CEO can sign up their whole corporation. Militias give you access to new Factional Warfare agents and missions among other things, but the price is that the enemy factions won’t like you very much. As they have big ships and weapons there are places you would probably want to avoid. Of course that adds to the excitement of it all and adventuresome types will be able to use their best strategies to outwit the opposition and accomplish their goals.
| |
| | | | | |
| | MMOFury | | Do you have a specific number of stations the new militia offices will occupy?
| |
| | | | | |
| | Wrangler | | Militia offices will be available in all Amarr, Caldari, Gallente and Minmatar stations.
| |
| | | | | |
| | MMOFury | | The factional warfare is the main feature of the Empyrean Age Expansion, can you give us more details about the ranking system that will be in place?
| |
| | | | | |
| | Wrangler | | Ranks are tied to the standing you have to your Militia Corporation. The better your standing is, the higher your rank will be.
| |
| | | | | |
| | MMOFury | | The Ranking images are very well designed, what areas of the game other than the decoration sheets will these be visible?
| |
| | | | | |
| | Wrangler | | They will be available on the battlefield intelligence window as well.
| |
| | | | | |
| | MMOFury | | What are some of the more realistic rewards we might see for ranks?
| |
| | | | | |
| | Wrangler | | The team has a lot of ideas in the works but it’s too early to discuss them at this point. We’re looking forward to getting more input from the players, not only about the rewards but about Factional Warfare as a whole, so we can pluck the best ideas from the katamari ball and make them a reality in EVE.
| |
| | | | | |
| | MMOFury | | Well that is all the questions I have, thank you Wrangler for taking the time to chat with us, and we look forward to the upcoming Empyrean Age which set to launch on June 10th. We recommend everyone heading over to EVE-Online to see how they can get involved with this amazing game.
