EVE Online to Feature New Democracy
CCP announces that it EVE Online will feature the first democratically-elected governing body in a virtual world. In an effort to promote increased interaction between developer and player, CCP has created the Council of Stellar Management (CSM) that will continue build on the complex social and economic systems for which EVE is well known.
"EVE Online has evolved from an MMORPG to a virtual world with a virtual society. It is our role as its caretakers to evolve our approach as well, through economics research, political science or other aspects of operations or development," said Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP. "A democratic election process of representatives is one of mankind's greatest inventions. We are bringing a version of that to EVE now with hope of it allowing us to expand EVE Online in a similar way to what we've seen on Earth."
The council will have 9 representatives and 5 alternates, that will be chosen by a popular vote from EVE players - a number that is reaching 250,000 in population. The election will take place between May 5th through May 19th with the delegates serving 6 month terms. For more information about the CSM visit the EVE Online official site.
