5 Reasons Why You Have To Try Tabula Rasa

It has only been about 5 months since the retail release of the Sci-fi themed MMORPG Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa and for those that have not yet taken a look at this formidable game, you may want to consider making a clean slate in your gaming portfolio. Tabula Rasa is the product of one very imaginative game designer Richard Garriott, the creator of the first major MMOG Ultima Online as well as the highly notable Lineage and City of Heroes.

The background to Tabula Rasa is that Earth was invaded by aliens which left total destruction in their wake and the remaining survivors have found themselves thrust into a far off war fighting alongside allied-alien races to drive back and defeat an enemy they call The Bane. Tabula Rasa features first person Shooter style controls, intense graphics, and an interesting skill system based on elements called logos that players must search for via quests and Intel to obtain. If that doesn't sound interesting enough, we have 5 more reasons that are sure to spark your gamely interest.

critters and general british

1. Moral Dilemmas - Tabula Rasa hosts a quest system that forces each player to carefully consider the consequences before making decisions.  Called Ethical Parables, missions in Tabula Rasa can effect the players future and the overall outcome of the game.  Rather than just getting a mindless list of items to gather and turn in for the predictable rewards, moral dilemmas were introduced to give players the ability to make thoughtful, and sometimes harmful decisions when completing a quest.

2. Clone System - Every player knows how frustrating it is to realize that you chose the wrong path with your character, the thought of re-rolling (starting a new character) was frustrating and possibly game ending.  The Cloning system in Tabula Rasa allows players to clone (save) at certain points with the ability to go back and rebuild a character at that clone point.  This also allows players the safety to experiment a bit more with the direction they take their character.

3. Insurance of your time investment - With the power of NCsoft behind your game, you can be pretty confident that the game's development will not end, and consistent content updates are a given.  Any gamer that has invested countless hours (or years) playing a game only to have it canceled knows how painful this is.  It honestly only takes once for a player to get stung like that to force them to understand the importance of stability.

4. Community - Tabula Rasa has one of the finest and most active support communities for an mmorpg.  The fansite program continues to grow, and those webmasters are doing a great job putting out great support material and constantly coming up with new ideas to get involved with the game and the game developers that keep players interested.  With sites like PlanetTR, Tabula Cast, and Tabula Rasa Role-players (just to name a few) players will always have multiple sources to turn to for in-game Intel and out of game entertainment.

5. Interactive GM Team -  There are few mmorpgs that get the GMs involved with game play, and none to the level of Tabula Rasa.  For Example, the lead character Sarah (depicted on much of the game's promotional art) is more than just part of the game, she is part of the player community.  Usually appearing during in-game events, tournaments, and sometimes randomly, Sarah as well as General British himself are controlled by a GMs.  If you're going to invest your time in a game it is great to know that you are investing in a game that features a Dev/GM team that enjoys interacting with the players and takes a pro-active approach to strengthening the relationships between players and GMs.
